Newfie Photo Planets
On my recent family vacation back to my home province of Newfoundland, I had an idea to try some different photos of some landmarks that I had photographed many times before. The idea was actually sparked by the “photoshpere” option on my tablet, which I initially thought would produce these photos for me. As it turns out a photosphere is actually a 360° panorama, but with a few quick steps in Photoshop, those panos become these neat “planet” photos.
Actually, the photo below of Cape Spear was taken on my my tablet using the photosphere option, so the picture quality is not the best. At the time I took this one, I was just playing with the camera features on the tablet without thinking of what I was going to ultimately do with the shot. However, the photo above was taken on Signal Hill with my DSLR (although I did take a few with my tablet as well). The quality is much higher (along with the file size – about 6GB before being downsized!), and as a bonus, I got to stand at one of the busiest tourist areas in the city spinning in circles taking pictures while everyone looked at me like I was nuts.
In the end, I think they turned out pretty cool and fun. I’ve always loved taking panoramic photos, so I guess this is just a little twist to the standard pano.
Stay tuned for some more photos from my trip!
