Riverside Rumble – Belleville’s First Cyclocross Event
On November 1st, Belleville On Bikes hosted Belleville’s first ever cyclocross race at Riverside Park. As you may know, I’m an avid mountain bike rider, but I don’t own a cyclocross bike, so instead of my bike I grabbed my camera and headed over to see what it was all about. These are some of my favourite shots from the day, but I took a ton of others that you can see by clicking here to go to my website. From there you can see larger versions of these files and more, and if you’re interested, you can also purchase a download of the higher resolutions files for personal use.
The park was transformed into a course full of climbs, logs, sand, and obstacles and it attracted riders from far and wide. As you can see from the jerseys worn by riders they came from as far away as Ottawa and Waterloo! Of course there were also a lot of local riders (I spotted a few Doug’s Bicycle logos in there too!). It was a great turnout, especially since it was the first race of it’s kind in Belleville, and everyone had a blast despite the cold… actually, from what I understand, the cold is part of the fun :-).
The first of the two races was women and under 17, the second was an open category. You can check out the results from both races by clicking here… which I highly recommend you do, because you can actually watch the race laps happen real time!
Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go see if I can convert my old mountain bike into a cyclocross bike for next season!
