Dentistry From The Heart 2015 at Picton Dental Centre
I’ve been spending way too much time at the dentist’s office lately. I had to take my son for his checkup and resultant filling and tooth sealant, followed by by own checkup. As if four trips to my own dentist in a month wasn’t enough, I found myself spending the day at Picton Dental Centre to help document their 3rd annual Dentistry From The Heart event. The difference of course being that I actually wanted to be at the dentist this time!
As you may recall, I also attended this event last year and it was such a great experience that I jumped at the chance to be there again this year. If you’re not familiar with Dentistry From The Heart, it’s essentially an event where people who are in need of dental work can get free cleanings, fillings and extractions. That’s right. FREE. I’m sure I said it last year, but I’ve never seen so many people happy to get their teeth pulled! And for good reason. After talking to a number of the patients, I got a common story. They’ve been suffering and were unable to afford to get their teeth fixed without insurance.
I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t imagine dealing with cavities like these on a daily basis. So it’s not hard to understand why people were so happy to be able to attend this event and get the help they so badly needed. Some of the lucky patients even won prizes!
Of course all that time spent helping people can only result in dancing in the halls. Seriously though, there were a lot of good vibes happening. Happy patients and happy staff!
For more photos from the day make sure to check out the video above which I put together from my own photos as well as photos taken by other volunteers throughout the day.
Big thanks to Picton Dental Centre for asking me to be there again this year and congratulations to all the volunteers on such an awesome day and for all your hard work. Well done!
