Marianas Trench and Walk Off The Earth kicked off their Canadian Tour on March 9 at Rogers K-Rock Centre in Kingston. I have to be honest (and to those of you who know me, this will be no surprise),  I can’t say I know anything about Marianas Trench. However, a nearly sold out crowd were losing their minds as soon as these guys hit the stage. And one thing was clear from the very start: They were there to entertain.

I Hear You… I’m Just Not Listening

As I’ve said before, when I’m in the pit concentrating on the photos, I don’t even really pay attention to the songs. I hear them of course (I am standing in front of a wall of speakers), but I’m not really listening, other than to get cues for what the band might do. I kind of think it like how my son hears what I’m saying to him, he just doesn’t listen. In fact, after the second song I had to look at one of the other photographers and ask (well, signal. It was too loud to talk!) how many songs had gone by. I lose track of time somehow when I’m in the zone. I guess for those three songs, I’m there to work, not be a fan!

High Flying Entertainment

I didn’t have a chance to stick around to watch the entire show, so I can’t tell you too much about it. But I do have a friend who posted some videos to Facebook after the show, which included a finale of the singer being lifted over the crowd on a trapeze. I can say for sure I’ve not seen that before at a concert. And the crowd loved it.

Not The Best Acoustics

And let’s not forget Walk Off The Earth. I do know their music and I did get to listen to their set (albeit from the lobby, which doesn’t have the ideal acoustics), and can say that they were also a huge hit with the crowd. I’m quite sure everyone in the audience was singing along for their entire set. In fact, after shooting their set, while hanging with the security staff and other photographers (who are always fun to hang out with), there were some jokes that people would start streaming out after WOTE’s set.
