Santana At Rogers K-Rock Centre
It’s not often that I get to photograph a legend the likes of Carlos Santana, but last night at Rogers K-Rock Centre, I got to do just that. Before the show I talked to a lot of people, and all of them mentioned the same thing. Santana got their big break at Woodstock in 1969. Here we are 47 years later, and he is still killing it live. That’s impressive.
Are You Gonna Go My Way
Although Santana is all about the man, Carlos, I always like to shoot the entire band. As they hit the stage, one band member caught my eye immediately but I wasn’t sure who it was until I got home and looked it up. Sure enough, it was Cindy Blackman who I recognized from being a drummer for Lenny Kravitz (specifically from his video for Are You Gonna Go My Way). What I didn’t know is that she’s Carlos’ wife. Who knows, maybe that’ll help you win Trivial Pursuit someday!
Look Up. Look Way Up
Remember the Friendly Giant? Yeah great show. It has nothing do with Santana, but it’s my idea of a good segue to talk about how high the stage was for this show. I’m 6’3″ on a good day and it was almost as tall as I was. Add a row of monitors on top of that (and I mean across the whole stage), and I started wishing I was more like 7’3″. Being tall makes finding shirts with long enough sleevesĀ a challenge, but it has it’s advantages too!
