Canada Day In Wellington
Happy Canada Day! We’re looking forward to all the activities happening today at the park and to the fireworks tonight. Unfortunately, the weather is looking a little threatening, but let’s hope the storms hold off! It’s already getting pretty windy out there, but that will at least help keep things cool.
Just in case the weather doesn’t cooperate tonight, we decided to head down to Wellington to check out their fireworks on the beach last night. It was amazing! We could not have had nicer weather. It was warm, we had an amazing sunset, and of course the fireworks were great too! Plus, if the weather does hold out, then we get two nights of fireworks, nothing wrong with that.
Of course, you won’t see me attending fireworks without having my camera on hand. So, before everything got started, I set all my camera settings (double and triple checked) and got everything ready to go (Manual mode, f/8, ISO 100, Bulb mode, manual focus). Then my son started doing some cute thing or another, so I grabbed my camera and changed all the settings – that’s important to this story – to shoot a few pictures of him (Aperture Priority, f/3.5, ISO 3200, Auto focus). Then I changed (most) of my settings back and put the camera away again. When the fireworks started I grabbed the camera out and started shooting.
I was quite happy with where the fireworks were located, it made for some great shots with the crowd sitting on the beach included in the frame. After it was all over I had a quick look at some of the photos on the screen and was super excited… until I got home and had a closer look and realized that I forgot to set my aperture back to where it should have been after taking pictures of my son…. arg. Stupid depth of field!
I hesitated posting these because of my “I D 10 T” error, but thought I’d share them even though they are a little blurry, because it was such a great night and maybe someone else can learn from my mistake. Besides, if you’re not looking at them at 100% the look fine :).
