One Acre War Portrait Shoot
Not too long ago, the boys from One Acre War finished putting together a new album. During their time in the studio, I was there to take some photos of them recording and they also asked me to take a band portrait with the new lineup for the album. But before they had finished all the tracks, the band announced to the world that they were calling it quits. Luckily they finished up the recording anyway and released the tunes, but The War was over… at least temporarily. And now I owed them cash for a portrait I hadn’t taken. You don’t want to owe money to these guys.
So, a few weeks later I saw a couple of the guys at a local show and I tried to pay back the money they had fronted for the photos. To my surprise, they refused to take it without reason. I insisted, but was refused. The music was loud and there were people around, so I left it at that. A few minutes later I was pulled aside and told they were going to need those photos after all! The War is back on.
Then one day I get a message asking if I can come out to The Swindle Shoppe where OAW was playing a show to make good on those photos. You’ve probably seen photos I’ve taken at the shoppe from previous posts (if not, click the link!) so you’d know that it’s a pretty cool spot with lot’s of amazing art work (a la Kenny) and cool things all around the place. A perfect spot for a shoot! So while a band was playing in the next room, I setup my gear amongst the guitar amps and cases and we grabbed some photos.
Then there was this car out front. As soon as they saw this, they wanted to get some photos done in it. The only problem was that it was parked in front of a shop next to a truck (not to mention the mid-day sun!). So I grabbed some photos with the intention of swapping out the background. This morning I went out and grabbed a shot of an old road near my house and started learning some compositing in Photoshop… A process, which so far is not 100% there (I’m working on it), but I think this shot is fun and I like the “old photo” feel that goes with the car.
The main thing is that I am no longer in debt to these guys and can sleep again…
