Snowmageddon

Every winter I struggle with the same thing. It’s way too easy to hibernate in the nice warm house instead of going out in the cold and snow to take pictures. But this year I made a commitment to get outside with my camera more. The only problem was that so far this winter it’s been pretty green around these parts… at least that was until Friday’s snowstorm. Being that I’m from Central Newfoundland, I’ve seen much bigger snow storms, but it was pretty big as far as storms go around here.

I crawled out of bed at 6:30 on Saturday, decided not to take the time to shovel the pile of snow left by the plow, and headed out. I had a location in mind, but after trudging through the snow, it just didn’t work out that morning so I headed back to the car (note to self: buy snowshoes). I got in the car and kept driving just to see what I could find. The sun wasn’t quite up yet, so I still had time before the best light was gone.

Just when I was about to give up, I came across this old barn. The rising sun was lighting up the inside, making it glow. I’m always on the lookout for these old barns when I’m driving around, but I’ve never seen anything quite like this.

After stopping to take some pictures I remembered another small shed on the side of the road that I had passed along the way and decided to turn around and check it out a little closer. By the time I got back, the sun was a little higher, and made for an amazing backdrop.
