Downtown Photowalk
A couple of weeks ago, I took part in the Downtown Photowalk here in Belleville. Photowalks are a great opportunity get out and meet fellow photographers, get some fresh air and exercise and of course take pictures! Although, I spent a little more time walking than taking pictures on this particular outing, since I had done a photowalk in this area before, and had photographed here on several other occasions. So, finding something to shoot that I hadn’t before was a challenge for me.
Before the walk, I realized I had this problem so I decided to set a couple of goals. The main one was to capture images of people. There was just one problem: It was 8:00 on a Saturday morning downtown, so there were no people around!
When I walked past this alley (which I had many pictures of already) I noticed some cars going by, so I thought it would be cool to get some shots with a slow shutter speed and the cars zooming by to show some motion. Then a few people walked by, so I quickly changed my settings and got a horribly out of focus picture of somebody walking by. Oh well, he was wearing black and faded into the scene anyway. So I waited for another person to come by… and waited… and waited.
Then it happened. This fine gentleman wearing a bright yellow coat, with a bright blue bag over his shoulder comes strolling by. What could be better? Don’t answer that.
It was a great morning. I got a shot that met my goal (plus my new goal of showing motion), and it ended up being the judges pick for the best photo from the walk!
