Revisiting Newfoundland
It would seem I’ve been taking a little bit of an unplanned break from social media lately. I can’t say for sure why, but for some reason my blog, Facebook, Twitter and Intagram have been sitting pretty idle. But, I guess that’s going to change today with some old photos I took in Newfoundland. Yup, today’s the day I get things back up and running.
I guess I’ve been going through a bit of a creative slump of sorts. This is not the first time, and I’m sure it won’t be the last. At times like this, no matter how much I try to convince myself to get out and take pictures of something… anything… I just can’t focus my vision. And without my vision, I just can’t be inspired to shoot. So, what to do at times like this? Well, first of all I think it’s a perfectly normal part of the creative process (at least for me), so I just roll with it. I know things will turn around and I’ll find my stride again. Also, when I don’t have new photos to work with, I like to dig into the archives a little.
The good thing is that I have a ton of ideas. Things to shoot, topics to write about, and projects that need work. Like this series of pictures I took in Newfoundland in 2011. When I took these photos, I was still learning a lot about photography, however I was so inspired by the sheer beauty of my surroundings that I couldn’t stop taking pictures. For the most part, these pictures have sat on my computer for the past 5 years collecting virtual dust. Until now.
These are still some of my favourite Newfoundland images I’ve ever captured and I’ve been meaning to revisit them for many years. I’ve made several half-hearted attempts at editing (and re-editing) them over the years, but they always tend to slip through the cracks and I never complete the project. The versions you see here are my latest attempt, but they are still a work in progress. As I move through the series, it sometimes makes me go back and rework earlier pieces, so we’ll see where it ends up when I’m done.
I’ve also got a few other projects in the works, so make sure to sign up to my mailing list (there’s a signup form to the right… or bottom on smartphones) to keep on top of what’s going on!
