Fatbiking on the Bay of Quinte
The day before I took this photo, I was down on the bay with my camera and caught an amazing sunrise. That reminded me of a photo I’ve been wanting to make for years that involves getting out on the ice, so this morning that’s what I did.
The original plan was to load my bike up and drive down to the bay, but I was up early enough that I decided to load up my smaller backpack and ride my bike from my house. I arrived in plenty of time to catch the sunrise, there was just one problem. There was no sunrise! But the good news is I had my fatbike and some studded tires so I decided instead to go cruise the bay for a bit. Then it hit me… fatbiking selfie.
Since I didn’t have my full camera kit, I didn’t have my tripod with me, but I did have my gorillapod. So I set the camera up and tried using the app on my phone to take the photo, but that just wasn’t working and I was losing light (well, gaining light I suppose!). So I set the self timer and ran to the bike to get on it without slippling (although I suppose that could have made a funny photo). After a few attempts (where I was caught half way on the bike), I got this shot just before my battery died.
I didn’t get the shot I was after, but I did get out for a bike ride and I may have a new profile banner for my Facebook page!
