Egan Chutes in Winter
We haven’t been getting much in the way of winter where I live, so to find the snow we have to get in the car and drive north. This weekend we decided drive to Egan Chutes Provincial Park to check out the waterfall in winter.
After tripping over a downed tree with my snowshoes and nearly falling over a cliff, we made it to the waterfall. Of course, once there my wife and son were ready to turn around and head back to the car, but I had to stop and grab a few photos! I have been to Egan Chute once before in the fall, but with the rocks covered in ice and snow, it was a much different landscape and a bit treacherous to navigate. Still, I slowly edged my way to the edge of the river, hoping all the while that I wasn’t walking out onto a cliff of snow that I’d fall through like Wile E. Coyote.
Once I felt secure in my location, I setup for a few shots and was framing through the viewfinder of my camera when I heard snow falling. My immediate reaction was that the snow beneath my feet was giving way and that I was going to end up in the river. But, as soon as the melting snow that was falling from the trees landed on my head, I knew I was OK for the short term. A little wet, but OK. I grabbed a few more frames (and had snow dumped on me one more time – which you can see in the bottom right corner of the photo) and got back to what I knew to be solid ground!
