Art & Sound Festival – Evening Set
Okie dokie, as promised here are the rest of the photos from the Art & Sound Festival. For photos from the afternoon set make sure to check out this post.
The evening set includes performances by Rye And Silence, One Acre War, Drowning Not Waving, Centre Street, Vatican Assassins, and The Dead Sparrows. Not that I’m counting, but we’re over twelve bands now. Did I mention how long that day was? Not to mention the photo editing!
I had a feeling that as the sun was going down, shooting was going to be quite a challenge. Especially since I was watching the small set of lights being setup in the back corner of the stage. Bah! When it got dark, I broke out my flash in desperation. I really hate using a flash for live concerts, but I thought I’d give it a try. There is an unwritten rule (well it is written for larger venues) that you don’t use flash for concerts, and there’s a reason for that (don’t worry, I won’t bore you here about why I dislike flash at concerts… maybe some other day). Some of you may know that I did use flash once in the past with great success when I had no choice because the room was almost completely black (I’m looking at you Parkdale!). But this night the flash quickly went back into my bag. I really wanted to capture whatever colour and light was coming from the stage lights, even though it was pretty darn dark, especially at the back of the stage. Unfortunately for me, I can be a bit of a bonehead and I really pushed my camera a little too far. I should have dropped my shutter speed, but instead I really pumped the ISO. I’m not shooting a D4 so when the ISO starts hitting those levels, bad things can happen.
Anyhooooo… for those of you who know not what ISO, shutter speed or a D4 are…on to the pictures.
