Wintersleep Rockin’ The Square
Remember Record Stores?
Thanks to many hours listening to CBC Radio 2, I’ve been a huge fan of Wintersleep since before it was cool. And I have the CD to prove it. That’s right, one listen to Oblivion and I was off to the old record store to pick up a copy of Welcome to the Night Sky after work. That CD now collects dust on my shelf with all the other CDs I purchased over the years, but Wintersleep’s entire catalogue is now in my Google Play favourites (I can’t believe I just said that… I kinda miss buying physical media). So when I heard that Wintersleep would be Rockin’ The Square in Kingston, I knew I had to be there.
Don’t Forget The Opening Band
On the drive to Kingston, I heard an interview with the opening band Kasador on 98.9 The Drive. I’ll be honest, I hadn’t heard of them before so I was excited to hear them play. Like I’ve mentioned before, I don’t hear a lot of the music when I’m shooting, so when I got home I also gave their music a listen. Keep an eye out for these guys, they may be the next big thing out of Kingston.
Free… Summer… Concerts
This is the fourth year for Rockin’ The Square and I’m looking forward to a lot more shows. Last year I missed the concerts entirely (I really wanted to catch Arkells), but the year before that I was able to make it to see one of my favourites Sarah Harmer. Free outdoor concerts in Downtown Kingston? You can’t beat it.
Also keep an eye out for the next free concert at Springer Market Square on July 29th when David Wilcox will be hitting the stage. I think he was actually the first concert I saw when I moved to Ontario and I wandered down to the stage at a local festival. I was trying to find the stage with Sloan, but that’s a whole different story.
