My New Book Is Here!

2013 A Year In Review: A collection of concert photography from the Quinte region.

As you may recall from this post from a couple of months ago, I’ve been working away at putting together a book of some of my local independent concert photography. Since I first made this announcement, I’ve had lot’s of people ask me about it, and wondering how they can get a copy for themselves. So I’m really excited to say that now that I have received my copy and I’m really happy with the quality, it is finally for sale!

For those of you who are not familiar with this project, it’s a collection of concert photos that I took in 2013 of independent musicians and bands playing in the Quinte area at various venues, concerts, and events. Near the end of the year, I was reviewing some of my photos and I had the idea to put this book together to get my favourite shots off of my computer and into print.

After weeks of sorting though photos, and editing layouts I finally received my first printed copy in the mail late last week (no thanks to the fact that Canada Post just stopped delivering mail to my neighbourhood last week)…. only to find a couple of small errors. Booooo! So I made the quick edits and uploaded new revisions, which are now available for direct order from Blurb via the links below.

Just a few things you should know about this book:

  1. The print quality is outstanding! I was a bit worried as I’ve ordered photo books before from other companies and the quality of the paper and print were not good. But in this book the photos are crisp, bright and full of detail and contrast. I’m picky about my prints and I am VERY pleased with how this turned out.
  2. There are two cover types available Hardcover and Softcover. Both are printed on the same high quality paper and have the same content in the same dimensions (10″ x 8″ landscape). The only difference is the cover, binding and price. The softcover cover also contains slightly different images (for some reason the cover layout options were slightly different).
  3. Build quality is top of the line. Like I said, I’ve ordered from other companies, and so far nothing comes close to this.
  4. As far as I’m aware, this is the first book of it’s kind (please correct me if I’m wrong) for the Quinte area. But it won’t be the last.
  5. This is not a cheaply made bargain book that you can buy from WagJag for $20, and it is not priced as one. This is a high quality book that will last for many years to come. For more information about how Blurb books are made click here. Also note I did shop around, and the prices at Blurb are as good or better than the competition.

This project was an enormous amount of work. From the hours (sometimes the entire days) spent shooting and editing photos to the creation of this book, I couldn’t venture a guess as to how much time it’s taken. But at the same time, it’s been a lot of fun, and I’ve met some amazing people.

I’ve actually had a couple of people say to me that this book is a piece of local history that documents an important part of their lives, and that they’ll be able to show these photos to their children some day to remember their days in a band. I never even thought of that myself, but if that turns out to be true, I couldn’t be happier or more flattered. Either way, if you or someone you know is in this book, I think you have to have to own a copy!
