A Walk In The Park

One thing is for sure: It is winter in Ontario. This is a fact that most people I know are having a hard time coming to grips with. To be fair, I am also sick of hearing the term ‘Polar Vortex’ in the weather forcast, but at the same time I have to say I’m really enjoying having an actual winter this year for a change… if only I had a a snowmobile… and hadn’t wrecked my tail bone while sliding with my son.

So when I get a family that actually wants to go out in the snow to get their photos taken, I’m all over it! When we picked a date, I went out to scope out some possible locations, most of which were not really passable due to deep snow, so we decided on the Frink Centre. I go there all the time and I knew the trails would be in good shape.

Like any shoot, this one had it’s challenges, but that’s part of the fun! In this case, the major problem was all the shadows being cast by the trees. There were no clouds in the sky so the shadows were pretty harsh. I wasn’t worried about it at first, but when I checked the back of my camera I immediately saw that it was going to be very hard to get three people and two dogs all in the same light or shadow, and using flash just wasn’t practical. It took a few attempts and some careful timing, but we managed!
I had a great time on this shoot, and these folks couldn’t have been better to work with. They came prepared with wardrobe changes and all! They even helped me carry my camera gear while I was chasing the dogs through the woods! Which brings me to the next challenge… getting shots of the dogs without their tongues hanging out! Oh well, it just goes to show how much fun they were having running around I guessâ˜ș.
Part of me would like to say that this was my last winter photo shoot of the year, but with the weather we’ve been having we could have snow until April! Either way, contact me today at info@dannysheppard.com to reserve your spring photo shoot before they’re all booked!
