Love it or hate it, it’s winter in Southern Ontario and you know what that means. Yup… that means that every time it snows the major highways turn to into a disaster zone littered with car crashes and pileups. Often resulting in road closures and major travel delays. So when it started snowing (with a forecast for freezing rain) on the night I was supposed to drive to Kingston to shoot ZZ Top, I almost decided to stay home. But I just couldn’t miss this show, so instead I packed a bag of extra clothes, threw my boots and snowsuit in the car and hit the road extra early. The drive took twice as long as it usually does, but it was worth it!

I mean it was ZZ Top. I couldn’t let a little snow stop me from shooting this concert. They have been on my list of bands to see live for a very long time, and I had already passed up one opportunity a few years back. But more importantly, I knew this would be  really fun concert to shoot and photographing ZZ Top live is a chance I’ll certainly never have again.

I grew up in the 80’s and vividly remember watching ZZ Top’s hot rod (and I believe there may have been some women?) laden videos on Much Music. I even remember a friend and I pretending to be in a band and mimicking those classic spinny arm pointy guitar twirly moves (oh, you know the ones). It’s hard to believe that these guys have been making music since before I was born, and are still kicking ass. Simply amazing. I mean, they had an entire stadium on their feet as soon as they hit the stage.
