It’s hard to believe it’s been over a year and half since I first went to check out a Belleville Roller Derby practice. Since then, there are a lot of new faces and the team has gone from working on getting certified to play, to being a force to be reckoned with on the flat track.

I’ve only had the opportunity to see the team play a few times, so this past weekend when the Belleville Bombshells hosted the Renfrew Valley Valkyries in their season home opener I had to be there to support the team and cheer them on… well, if you know me you know that I don’t ‘cheer’ as such since I’m so quite, but I was cheering on the inside! Now that I think about it, it’s pretty strange that I have such a hard time with yelling in a noisy crowd… this could take years of therapy to sort out, so in the meantime I’ll just sit quietly and take photos. Go Team!

I still talk to people that have no idea that Belleville even has a roller derby team (or that didn’t until they saw photos), but the word is definitely getting out there fast. Make sure to go give their Facebook Page a like and keep an eye on their upcoming events. They put an amazing amount of work and dedication into everything from practice to putting off these games, and deserve to have all the support they can get. Plus it’s great fun to watch!
