Bay Of Quinte Sunrise Through The Trees

Sometimes you get up super early on a cold winter morning, get bundled up, grab your camera gear, and drive out to sit in the snow freezing your fingers off and wait for the sunrise. Am I right? Well, I do. Sometimes I’m rewarded as the rising sun turns the clouds all shades of red, pink and orange. Other times, it’s grey and cloudy and the sun never even makes an appearance. On those days, I wish I had stayed in bed!

Then there are days when there are no clouds at all, which can make for a pretty plain sunrise. Those mornings are worth getting up for, but don’t always make the most interesting photographs. But, I crawled out of bed early so I try to make the best out of it! One way to do that is to make some more abstract photos or to find an interesting foreground subject to be the centre of attention. For this photo, I shot the sunrise through a stand of trees and used intentional camera movement give it a painterly effect. I suppose I could mess with photos like this in Photoshop, but it’s fun and interesting to see what you can create in camera!
