Ice at Presqu’ile Provincial Park

Ice At Presqu'ile Provincial Park

Photographing the Ice at Presqu’ile Provincial Park is one of my favourite things to do in winter. This year was no exception.

Winter Is Great, But…

In like a lion, out like a lamb… That sounds about right, given that here in Eastern Ontario we’re looking at (hopefully) one last big snow storm tonight. Now as you may know, I’m a big fan of winter, so it may surprise to know that I’m ready for spring!  The way I see it, winter should have snow. A lot of snow.  I want to go snowshoeing and sliding. I want to build snow forts with my son. This year, we went sliding twice, and one of those times there was more grass than snow on the hill. Not cool. This winter just hasn’t delivered, so bring on spring. Actually, what I’m really looking forward to is fall, but I’ll suffer through summer somehow. Seriously though, getting a big snow storm in March is too little late for me!

At Least There Was Ice At Presqu’ile Provincial Park

On the other hand, I have had lots of opportunity to photograph the cold. That sounds weird, but since there’s not a lot of snow, my plans of shooting some big snowy landscapes this winter didn’t pan out. However, I did quite enjoy shooting icy scenes around the Bay Of Quinte region. As a landscape photographer, I have a need to shoot bodies of water. They’re just so flowy, and reflecty, and wet… Well, wet is not so good for cameras, and reflecty is not a word, but you know what I mean. But shooting water can have it’s challenges as well. It can often be difficult to find a really interesting subject around a body of water, for example. And sometimes, they’re not very reflecty at all. Other times, it can be downright cold and windy near the water, like it was on the morning I grabbed this shot at Presqu’ile Provincial Park.

Seriously Though, Bring On Spring

Well, now I have myself almost convinced that I’m not quite ready for spring just yet. I bet tonight’s snowfall will bring with it some amazing things to photograph. Then it can be spring.
