Chisholm’s Mill In Springtime
Chisholm’s Mill in springtime is one of my favourite spots to shoot. The high rushing waters of the Moira River and the dilapidated old mill make for a winning combination in my books. So when I looked out the window and saw the storm clouds rolling in this afternoon, I decided to take a drive and see what I could find.
On the drive north, I was treated to sun, snow, rain, and a little hail just for fun. If I didn’t know better, I’d have thought I was back home in Newfoundland. I almost turned around, but figured I’d better try my luck since the clouds were looking very compelling. Sure enough, by the time I got to the mill, I had gotten ahead of the rain which gave me a few minutes to scope out an area along the river bank that wasn’t overtaken by the rushing water.
With the storm to the north, but a brief break in the clouds to the southwest, I was treated to some amazing light on the mill and the river, while still having the storm clouds in the backdrop.

But it didn’t last for long. Shortly after I grabbed a few frames, the sun was overtaken by the storm, and the hail and snow followed closely behind.
