Metal Mulisha

I had a great time a last weeks Waterfront Festival. This year I spent more time down at the festival than any other year. As you may have read here on my blog earlier this week, I was there all day Friday shooting the Canadian Indie Music Fest. Later that night I came back with my son so he and his friend could have fun at the midway (and have fun they did – more on that later). Needless to say Friday was a looooong day, but a great one.

Then Saturday we headed back down to check out Metal Mulisha and the food village (ok… if you know me, you know I went straight for the Italy tent to get pizza, but my wife likes to get other stuff). I wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from Metal Mulisha, but it looked like it would be a good show and I knew my son would enjoy it..

I have to say, these guys exceeded my expectations. They pull up in this truck, setup a launch ramp and a landing ramp (which attached to the back of the truck) and then jump between them, getting some crazy air. Very cool. Unfortunately part way through the show they broke the launch ramp! It’s a good thing nobody was hurt, but that ended the show a bit early.

Sunday afternoon, we were looking for something to do, so despite the heat I loaded up my son and headed back down to watch these guys again. I just couldn’t resist seeing what other tricks they had up their sleeve, plus I didn’t get all the shots I wanted on Saturday!

Keep an eye out for Metal Mulisha at an event in your town, it is well worth checking out even if you’re not into motocross.

Here are some of my favourite images. You can find more over on my Facebook Page.

This is a shot I knew I had to get with the bay bridge in the background. The panoramic crop works great here, especially since it also crops out all the porta potties :-).

On the first day I also didn’t get any shots of them coming down on this very cool ramp, which my son just couldn’t stop talking about. I can’t blame him, it is pretty awesome. Then there was the jumps with the three bikes in the air at once and the grand finally where they created a smoke screen on the landing ramp. I couldn’t quite explain why they making “steam” to my son, but he thought it was pretty outstanding. I’m really glad I went back for the second show!
