Nancy’s Wedding Decorations

Weddings can take a lot of planning and preparation, and this one was certainly no exception. My sister in-law and her friends and family spent many months designing and creating these incredible decorations for her wedding all by hand. That’s right, all those little paper flowers, centerpieces, table settings and more all crafted by hand.

An incredible amount of work went into preparing for this wedding and when I was asked if I would shoot the reception hall decorations, bride and bridesmaids getting ready, and reception I jumped at the chance to help out. Otherwise, I was just a grump complaining about having to wear a suit :-).

Now I’m no big city interior designer, but I know what I like. When I arrived to see the decorated hall I was blown away by the detail and how amazing everything looked. I mean, they thought of everything! There was even a do-it-yourself sundae bar and a popcorn machine (which were both awesome!).

It was pretty dark in the hall, and as luck would have it, just as I was starting to take pictures they turned the lights down and lit all the candles to see how it looked. The mood in the room completely changed and I immediately started shooting before the lights came back on! It was a good thing I brought my tripod, because these all required long exposures of 2 or 3 seconds. Plus setting up on the tripod allowed me to really think about composition and setup for every shot rather than running around snapping quick shots.

I felt bad for moving some things around on the tables to remove distractions, and I broke a picture frame that was used for a name plate at one of the tables while trying to set it up… but it was worth it! And my wife was kind enough to fix everything I messed up so nobody was the wiser… except whoever was sitting where I broke the picture frame probably… sorry whoever that was.
