On Saturday I had the opportunity to go shoot some photos at the Bay of Quinte Grand Prix at Shannonville Motorsport Park. I spent the day in the unbearably hot sun getting pelted by little bits of rubber and debris from the track and had a great time!

I didn’t even realize just how dirty I was getting until I was getting ready to leave and noticed that I was covered in bits of rubber. But I guess when you are standing only feet away from race cars flying by at speeds so high that they push you back as they pass, and make the ground shake under your feet, you are going to get dirty.

The sheer power of these cars is just astounding. For many of these photos, the only thing separating me from them as they passed was a foot of concrete. I was lost in taking photos, watching the cars drift through the corner into the straightaway, when I suddenly realized what could happen if one of the cars drifted just a little too far. Then I convinced myself that if a car hit the wall, I could easily jump to safety in time and capture an amazing photo at the same time… right? I don’t see why not, but luckily I never had to find out.
