Death Cab For Cutie At K-Rock Centre

Death Cab For Cutie at Rogers K-Rock Centre

I recently had the opportunity to shoot Death Cab For Cutie at K-Rock Centre along with Metric (more on them later). Then my computer became a sluggish mess of Windows 10 garbage. Long story short: It has taken forever to process these photos because it took me two days just to get Windows and Lightroom re-installed correctly! Anyhoo, I’m finally working my way through the concert photos so here’s the first batch.

Buy One, Get One…

Remember when stores used to have BOGO sales? Now they’re By One Get One 1/2 Price or some nonsense. Well the really cool thing about this show is that it was actually two headlining bands in one show, so DCFC actually played a full set. Now from what I heard about ticket prices, it was hardly a BOGO deal, but DCFC and Metric for one ticket is still pretty sweet and for sure cheaper than buying two separate tickets. And from my perspective, the opportunity to shoot two bands (especially these two!) in one night also makes the drive to Kingston well worth it!

Death Cab For Cutie Does Really Play Their Instruments

One of the rules for shooting these shows is that we only get to stay in the photo pit for three songs. So when were standing in the lobby waiting and heard the band start to play everyone freaked out a bit. Thinking that we were losing out on valuable time in the pit, we rushed to get to the stage, only to find the band stumbling through their first song. Ben was poking his feet at his peddle board with a confused look on his face and looking back at his stage crew as the band tried to play on. Eventually, he stopped the song and explained that his looper was not working, made a joke about the audience realizing they weren’t actually playing their instruments, and started over. Of course they really were playing their instruments, and quite well I might add! Over the years I’ve seen countless scenarios where cables come unplugged, things break, microphones stop working… you get the point. Sometimes it’s an easy fix, other times you just gotta start over. It sucks for the band, but luckily for those of us in the pit, it gave us a few minutes to find our way to the stage and we got our three songs 🙂 .
